I started writing long before I had a job title for any of the other things I do. Poetry took me onto stages; essays, scripts, and the occasional newspaper blackout poem kept me at the desk.
I studied English and creative writing at the University of Minnesota. I still write poems, and I’m working on new work. Here’s what’s published on the site so far.

At 19, I competed at the National Poetry Slam in Austin with the Minneapolis team. I kept writing and performing for years after that.
That taught me to hear when a sentence worked, and when a room stopped listening. I still use that sense of timing in songs, speeches, and work.
