The short version
19 years old
At 19, I went to the National Poetry Slam with the Minneapolis team. Poetry led to records, shows at 7th Street Entry, and songs made with people I still admire.
The years after
Making a line land turned out to be useful beyond the stage. I took that instinct into marketing and spent the next decade leading teams in software, from startups to companies serving the Fortune 500.
Today
Today I lead growth at Wild State Cider and Birdie, serve on the COMPAS board, write, host podcasts, and make music. I also work with a small number of other brands through Kopperud & Co.

Twenty years in B2B and consumer brands: positioning, messaging, launches, campaigns, and the teams that make them work. I take on select consulting projects through Kopperud & Co.
Essays, poems, scripts, and whatever else needs a page.
I've been writing longer than I've been doing any of the other work here. Some of the pieces are personal, some are about work, and some started with a newspaper and a black marker.
